New Nintendo Direct Offers New Info on Upcoming Wii U and 3DS Titles

In a new Nintendo Direct video, Nintendo revealed new games on the way for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, as well as additional details about previously announced titles. From new games in the Kirby and Paper Mario franchises to a companion game for Star Fox Zero, some of the highlights of the video include:

Wii U

  • Star Fox Zero: Fox McCloud returns in a new adventure. Multiple paths branch out to give players plenty of places to explore, and each route gives them a completely different experience, with each battle posing its own set of challenges. In two-player mode, one player can fly the Arwing while the other player aims and shoots. The game launches April 22nd. The packaged version comes with a Star Fox Guard game disc at a SRP of $74.99 while the digital version of the game can be purchased by itself from Nintendo eShop for $64.99.
  • Star Fox Guard: Players set up 12 cameras to find and defeat enemies who are attacking the mining site of Slippy Toad’s uncle, Grippy Toad. The game includes about 100 stages, but players can also create their own stages by editing the placement of enemies and uploading their levels online. The only way to get the physical version of Star Fox Guard is by purchasing the packaged version of Star Fox Zero. The game can also be purchased by itself from Nintendo eShop for $19.99. Customers that purchase the digital version of either Star Fox Zero or Star Fox Guard will receive a $10.00 Nintendo eShop discount toward the other game.
  • Paper Mario: Color Splash: Prism Island is being drained of its colour and it’s up to Paper Mario to stop it! Use Paper Mario’s paint hammer to splash paint on anything it hits and bring the colour back to the island in this new action-adventure game. The game will launch later in 2016.

Nintendo 3DS

  • Kirby: Planet Robobot: Invaders have mechanized Dream Land. To restore his home to its original form, Kirby must use their technology against them with the new Robobot Armor. The Robobot Armor can even destroy a variety of obstacles in his way. The Team Kirby Clash mode lets up to four players join forces to battle against bosses. Players select one of four roles, and participate in a co-op quest to defeat a boss while supporting their team. Completing a quest earns experience points to level-up and grow more powerful. The game is compatible with a variety of amiibo figures, and some give Kirby character-specific abilities. A new series of Kirby amiibo figures that includes Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight and Waddle Dee gives Kirby attributes specific to each character. The game and new amiibo figures launch June 10th.
  • Metroid Prime: Federation Force: This next chapter in the Metroid Prime series is a first-person adventure fused with puzzle solving, focused on shooting and co-op gameplay. Players take on missions that tell the story of the battle between the Galactic Federation’s elite Federation Force unit and the Space Pirates. Each player must select and carry specific sub-weapons based on their preferred roles, then proceed to complete each mission. The game will launch in late spring.
  • Monster Hunter Generations: The newest installment in the Monster Hunter action RPG series from Capcom is making its way to the West. The game will feature a special collaboration armor set based on Marth from the Fire Emblem series. Anyone who plays Monster Hunter Generations on Nintendo 3DS with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate save data present on it will receive bonus content in the new game. Monster Hunter Generations Announced for 3DS

Capcom announced Monster Hunter Generations for the Nintendo 3DS during today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast. Coming in summer 2016, and initially released in Japan as Monster Hunter X, the western release of Monster Hunter Generations is the newest installment in the action RPG series. It is the most customizable Monster Hunter experience to date, and serves as a tribute to the last decade of the series. A blend of brand new areas and monsters join returning fan-favorites which have been updated and adapted to the latest generation of gameplay.

In Monster Hunter Generations, players take up the role of a hunter, seeking out and vanquishing a variety of colossal creatures throughout the world. Players can earn Zenny and collect resources that can be used for crafting weapons and armor which are styled after the monsters they have defeated. On their journey, players must defend each of the game’s four villages from the threat of major new menaces known collectively as the Fated Four.

This latest installment marks the debut of new gameplay mechanics such as Styles and Hunter Arts which allow players to create the most custom, personalized playstyle of any Monster Hunter game yet. Players can choose from four distinct combat Styles, like Aerial which adds the ability to attack and mount monsters from mid-air. With the introduction of new attack skills and power-ups known as Hunter Arts, the action looks more visually striking than ever before on Nintendo 3DS.

For the first time in the series, players will have the ability to now play as a Felyne themselves in the new Prowler Mode. In this mode, there are even more adventures to be had in quests playing either as a Felyne alone or with up to three other companions in group quests. With hundreds of quests in store for hunters and Felynes, there are tons of challenges to tackle in the solo adventure, and also multiplayer quests via local or online play, opening up the world of Monster Hunter to players of all levels.

As part of the Nintendo Direct today, it was also announced that Monster Hunter Generations will feature a unique armor set based on Marth from the tactical RPG series Fire Emblem. Fans can look forward to this and more collaborations with popular series for special themed gear for both hunters and their custom Felyne support partners known as Palicoes.
