WorldGaming and Cineplex announced that registration opens today for the Cineplex WorldGaming Canadian Championship Series Presented by PlayStation. The tournament will see teams of four from across Canada competing in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare for over $65,000 in cash and prizes as well as the Championship title. The winning team will also automatically earn a team pass and represent Canada at the CWL Anaheim Open, a major event in the schedule for the Call of Duty World League, Presented by PlayStation for a chance to earn CWL Pro Points to qualify for the CWL Championship.
Teams can qualify for the tournament through one of ten Online Qualifiers hosted on WorldGaming.com beginning January 28th, or through one of 24 Regional Qualifier events held live at their local Cineplex theatre on February 26th. From there, 64 teams will compete in Online Playoffs where the top eight teams from across Canada will receive an all-expense paid trip to Toronto for the National Finals, held at Scotiabank Theatre Toronto on March 26th.
With over $65,000 in cash and prizes, the winning team from the Cineplex WorldGaming Canadian Championship Series will go home with $20,000 cash – $10,000 and $4,000 will be awarded to the second and third-place teams respectively. Other prizing for gamers and the spectators cheering them on includes movie passes, games, consoles and of course, bragging rights at the CWL Anaheim Open as the winning team competes on the North American stage.

The organizers of the 19th annual Independent Games Festival have announced the finalists for the 2017 IGF Awards, which honors the most influential, innovative and exemplary projects in independent game development. With more than 650 entries, judges have selected 30 outstanding nominees.
Finalists include the first-person thriller, Virginia, from the developer Variable State, the action RPG, Hyper Light Drifter by Heart Machine, the puzzle-platformer Inside from Playdead, and Event[0] by Ocelot Society, a sci-fi narrative exploration game.
The award ceremony takes place on March 1st, 2017 during the Game Developers Conference, and will be hosted by game designer Nina Freeman. Electronic Arts and Nomadic Entertainment Group today revealed the first details of the inaugural EA Sports Bowl. Taking place at Club Nomadic in Houston on February 2nd, the event will feature pro athlete tournaments in both Madden NFL 17 and FIFA 17. After the tournament fans will be treated to musical performances by country music superstar Sam Hunt, Grammy-nominated duo The Chainsmokers and a few other surprises.

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the PlayStation 4 has sold through more than 6.2 million units during the 2016 holiday season, and has now cumulatively sold through more than 53.4 million units globally as of January 1st, 2017. PlayStation 4 software also remained strong during the 2016 holiday season with more than 50.4 million copies sold in retail stores and through digital download on PlayStation Store as of January 1st, 2017. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End reached a cumulative sell through of more than 8.7 million copies globally as of December 21st, 2016.
