Gravel – Developer Diary #2: Four Disciplines

Gravel, Milestone’s latest IP, is back with a new developer diary focused on the career mode developed around the Off-Road Masters, the annual TV show where the best riders in the world compete in races all over the planet.

The show’s season includes episodes which are made up of one or more races. Each competition is part of a specific discipline: the players will fight against the champion of that discipline, the so-called Off-Road Master, while they proceed in the career. Four champions for four disciplines, Cross Country, Wild Rush, Speed Cross and Stadium Circuit, and each champion mirrors the spirit of their discipline. Players will have to fight to defeat the Off-Road Masters and win their titles. Once the championship is over, players can take part in a definitive challenge to beat the reigning Off-Road Master of all disciplines in the Final League.

The second developer diary also offers an in-depth look into the four disciplines, their design and the artistic studies beyond them. Gravel will be released on February 27th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Big Changes Coming to Raiders of the Broken Planet

Indie studio MercurySteam today announced that Raiders of the Broken Planet is getting a huge change in preparation for the future releases of the first season of content. What was once the Prologue has now become the Eternal Soldier free Starter Campaign featuring two missions: the single-player tutorial “First Blood” and the 4 vs 1 multiplayer mission “Hanging by a Thread”.

With full access to the games’ features, players who download the free Eternal Soldier Starter Campaign will be able to use gold, faction points and character points to unlock new characters, build weapons from blueprints, unlock Faction and Character Cards and unveil pieces of lore from the world of Raiders of the Broken Planet. Eternal Soldier includes a total of seven playable characters and sets the stage for the story to follow in Alien Myths and the other parallel stories of the next three campaigns of the first season.

The business model for Raiders of the Broken Planet is unique in its release of a free to play base game, supplemented by individual story campaigns. The naming of the Prologue has caused some confusion among gamers. With the re-naming of the Prologue to the Eternal Soldier Starter Campaign, MercurySteam want to re-emphasize the importance of this campaign, serving as the base game from which the additional campaigns build off from.
