Total War: Arena Announced

During his session at GDC 2013 in San Francisco today, Lead Designer James Russell revealed a brand new title under development at The Creative Assembly.

Total War: Arena will be the UK studio’s first title in a free-to-play model, representing a new spin-off for the Total War series. Offering players the chance to pitch history’s greatest commanders and their armies against each other in team-based battles, Total War: Arena will focus entirely on online multiplayer, mixing elements of RTS and MOBA gameplay.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Demo Coming

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today confirmed that a free demo for the upcoming DC Comics fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us will be available in early April on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network before its April 16th release.

The Injustice: Gods Among Us demo features Batman, Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor – three playable characters pulled from the game’s DC Comics roster. Set in the Gotham City arena, fans can get a taste of the included characters’ unique super powers and individual move-sets as they destroy elements of the world and fight through the multi-tiered arena.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Announced

Konami today announced the next chapter in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Metal Gear Solid? V: The Phantom Pain, will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Kojima Productions unveiled a new trailer for the title at this year’s Game Developers Conference.

First unveiled in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the new Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer shows the fall of Mother Base and provides visual hints that unveil the connection between Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Telltale Announces The Wolf Among Us

Telltale Games, in cooperation with DC Entertainment, today announced The Wolf Among Us. Based on Bill Willingham’s comic book series ‘Fables’ and licensed by WArner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Telltale Games will premiere its new series on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and PC this summer.

Set prior to the events seen in the first issue of the Fables comic book series, The Wolf Among Us puts players in the role of Bigby Wolf, a man once more infamously known as The Big Bad Wolf. Now the sheriff of a hidden community in New York City, exiled from the land of fairy tales, Bigby is tasked by the bureaucrat Snow White to keep order within a society of mythical creatures and characters trying to remain undetected in the world of the mundane. From a chain-smoking member of ‘The Three Little Pigs,’ to a car-stealing Mr. Toad itching for his next wild ride, The Wolf Among Us examines the lives of beings straight from the pages of myth and lore, now trying to survive on the meanest and most run-down streets of New York City.

Journey Sweeps 2013 GDC Awards

thatgamecompany’s Journey won six awards at last night’s 13th annual GDC Game Developers Conference, including Best Audio, Best Game Design, Best Visual Arts, Best Downloadable Game, the Innovation Award, and the Game of the Year Award.

Additionally, Bethesda and Arkane Studios’ Dishonored won the inaugural Audience Award category after thousands of votes were cast for the honor.

BioWare founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk were honored for their contributions to the video game industry with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Spacewar! creator Steve Russell was honored with the Pioneer Award for his work on the multiplayer space title. Chris Melissinos, the creator and guest curator of the Smithsonian American Art Museum˜s “The Art of Video Games” was presented with the Ambassador Award for his efforts on the exhibition.

Richard Hofmeier’s Cart Life took home the Seumas McNally Grand Prize award at the Independent Games Festival hosted by the GDC. In addition to the grand prize, Cart Life was a multi-award winning title, securing the Nuovo Award for abstract and unconventional games as well as the Best Narrative Award. Additionally FTL: Faster Than Light by Subset Games won multiple categories taking the Audience Award and Excellence in Design Award.

A-MEN Launches on PSN

Namco Bandai today announced the release of A-MEN to the PlayStation 3 on PlayStation Network for $9.99. A-MEN is an action-puzzle game that will challenge players with a series of puzzles, and levels and worlds within a retro-style game. Previously released for PlayStation Vita, this new version of the game includes full HD, new action‑based multiplayer modes, and more PSN trophies.
