Shin Megami Tensei IV Announced

Atlus today announced Shin Megami Tensei IV will be available for the Nintendo 3DS this summer.

Building on the styles of Atlus’ Persona, Devil Summoner, and Devil Survivor titles, Shin Megami Tensei IV is the first true successor to 2004’s Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. The story revolves around the Samurai, the sacred protectors of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado. As a newly appointed Samurai, players will struggle with factions that have nefarious designs on the world as they defend their home kingdom from a growing army of demons. Decisions players make throughout the course of the story will have lasting repercussions, as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

Shin Megami Tensei IV blends familiar features from previous SMT games with all-new features that take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS, including:

  • A World to Discover, A Mystery to Uncover – The life of a Samurai is fraught with peril. Players must leave the safety of the kingdom in order to defend it from the invading demons. There the story unfolds as they become involved in a fierce battle between God and demons.
  • Demon Collection and Fusion – The core mechanic of the Shin Megami Tensei series returns with more than 400 demons to recruit, collect, and fuse together. Players will constantly be challenged with balancing the strengths of their demons to ultimately excel in battle.
  • Choices and Consequences – Throughout the player’s journey, they must choose their own path. The choices will affect them, other NPCs, and the overall outcome of the story. Branching story paths require careful consideration since the fates of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado and the rest of the world hang in the balance.
  • Pressing the Combat Advantage – The Press Turn system requires strategic thinking for every battle. Pinpointing an enemy’s weakness will provide a vital extra turn for players to exploit. But there are dangers as well…reckless attacks against demons cause players to lose their turns and give the enemy an opening to strike back.

First DLC for Gears of War: Judgment Released

Epic Games has released the first game add-on for Gears of War: Judgment. The DLC includes the return of the multiplayer mode Execution and a new multiplayer map called Haven, which will be free for a limited time only.

In Execution mode, the objective of each team is to kill all members of the enemy team before the time limit runs out. The catch? Unless hit with a one-shot kill weapon like the Booshka, players go into a “Down But Not Out” state and will revive at the end of the bleed-out timer instead of dying. To finish the job, perform an Execution on a downed enemy.

In addition to the new mode and map, special playlists for both Haven and Execution will be available, offering 200% XP boosts for a limited time (VIP pass holders will receive 300% XP boosts). And in addition to the DLC, the first title update will be going live today as well.

MLB 2K13 Perfect Game Challenge Underway

2K Sports today announced the start of MLB 2K13’s Perfect Game Challenge. Starting today, April 1st at 9:00:01 a.m. PDT, players can start their journey towards baseball perfection in MLB 2K13 through the contest’s close on April 30th at 11:59:59 PDT.

This year’s contest features more ways to win than ever before, as players can compete to win up to 30 $25,000 prize pools, one per MLB team, with a combined prize of $750,000 being divided among the 30 pools. Competitors will need to monitor the Perfect Game Challenge leaderboards to ensure they maintain their ranking as new high scores are added. By using pitchers from different MLB teams, there is no limit on the number of $25,000 team prizes one player can win.

Once the competition window closes on April 30th, the top four Overall Leaderboard finalists with top ranked and verified perfect games achieved on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will compete in a single-elimination tournament during MLB All-Star Week in New York for the $250,000 grand prize.

For the second year in a row, 2K Sports’ proprietary algorithm will rank individual perfect games based on difficulty (such as the opposing team’s offensive prowess and selected pitcher’s skill) and degree of perfection (such as number of strikeouts and pitching efficiency).
