Daybreak Game Company is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the launch of DC Universe Online with the news that the massively multiplayer online superhero game is coming this spring to Xbox One. Additionally, Daybreak announced that cross-play functionality will be available for players on the PlayStation 4 and PC the week of January 25th.
Cineplex and WorldGaming today announced details around a new partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment Canada as well as its first in a series of national video gaming tournaments. Registration opens today for the ‘Cineplex WorldGaming Canadian Tournament Presented by PlayStation’ featuring Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The one-vs-one tournament’s Online Qualifiers will be produced by WorldGaming and the Regional Finals and Canadian Final events will be hosted at Cineplex theatres across Canada.
With $50,000 in total prizing up for grabs, the winner of the tournament is going home with $20,000 cash and $8,000 and $3,500 will be lining the pockets of the second and third place winners respectively. Other prizing for gamers and the spectators cheering them on includes free movie passes, games, consoles and of course, bragging rights. Registration to play and compete in the ‘Cineplex WorldGaming Canadian Tournament Presented by PlayStation’ is absolutely free.
The ‘Cineplex WorldGaming Canadian Tournament Presented by PlayStation’ will begin with Online Qualifiers from January 16 – February 7, moving to Regional Finals in 24 Cineplex theatres across Canada on February 21. Gamers must be at least 18 years of age to compete for title of Canadian Champion. Atlus today announced that The Deadly Tower of Monsters will get a special 2-week price discount when it launches on January 19th. It will be discounted ~33% until February 2nd for PlayStation Plus subscribers and Steam users. Plus, the Steam version of the game will also include a bonus “Scarlet Nova” digital calendar. While the price will revert back to normal after the promotional period, the calendar will be a permanent bonus for Steam purchases.

Wargaming today announced the World of Tanks PlayStation 4 Open Beta is now live and available to download from the PlayStation Store. The second Open Beta weekend will run January 8–10 and offers players Founder’s Packs with Premium content to jump start the tanking experience.
All Beta participants joining the fight this weekend will receive the T1E6-PS US Premium Light Tank and the exclusive PlayStation 20th anniversary M22 Locust Premium US Light Tank—each with unique camouflage and emblem. Additionally, tankers now have access to Founder’s Packs featuring Premium tanks, bonus Premium Account and in-game currency for a limited time only.
The 16th annual Game Developers Choice Awards has revealed the nominees for 2016. Winners in all categories will be announced and honored at the Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony, taking place alongside the Independent Games Festival Awards on Wednesday, March 16th at 6:30pm at San Francisco’s Moscone Convention Center during the 2016 Game Developers Conference.
Two games lead pack with four nominations each. Kojima Productions’ Metal Gear Solid V received nods for Best Audio, Best Design, Best Technology and Game of the Year. Additionally, CD Projekt RED’s open-world action role-playing game, The Witcher 3, received nominations for Best Visual Art, Best Narrative, Best Technology and Game of the Year.
Additional titles with nominations in multiple categories include Star Wars Battlefront (DICE), Bloodborne (FromSoftware), Fallout 4 (Bethesda Game Studios) and Splatoon (Nintendo).

Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studios today announced Neverwinter: Underdark – the eighth expansion of the action MMORPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms universe – is coming to Xbox One on February 9th. Engage in battle with demonic forces throughout the Sword Coast and fight alongside Drizzt Do’Urden, as he battles the dreaded Demogorgon in a 10-player encounter.
Electronic Arts and Coldwood have released a new video for Unravel detailing the inspiration of the game’s protagonist, Yarny. Martin Sahlin, Creative Director at Coldwood, goes beyond the creation of Yarny on a camping trip with his family and defines the meaning each individual thread of red yarn.
