Capcom Announces Strider

Capcom today confirmed that Strider Hiryu will return in Strider, a new title in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. A side-scrolling action platformer, Strider begins in the metropolis of Kazakh City, a mix of ornate Russian architecture and futuristic high-rise buildings with sprawling energy cables and pipework. Players freely explore the city and beyond, gaining new abilities and items which in turn open access to an interconnected game world.

The year is Meio: 048, on an alternate dystopian future of Earth. The whole planet suffers under the oppressive, iron-fisted rule of the mysterious and omnipotent Grand Master Meio. An expert in sabotage and assassination, Hiryu is the youngest ever recruit to attain a Special A-Class in the hellish Strider training program, and is the only man capable of achieving the mission to eliminate Grand Master Meio.

Perform acrobatic jumps and mid-air flips while slicing through enemies with Hiryu’s indestructible ‘Cypher’, a plasma charged weapon that can take on a number of properties. Alternatively, use the climb sickle to gain the high ground, and hit them with a surprise Kunai attack, or call on support allies for some extra muscle when the going gets tough.

Strider is being developed by Double Helix Games in conjunction with Capcom and is scheduled for digital release in early 2014.

NCAA Will Not Renew NCAA-EA Football License

The NCAA made news last night with its announcement that it would not be renegotiating its license for EA-published NCAA Football games after the companies’ current agreement expires next year.

Lawyers who have filed suit against the NCAA and EA believe that the NCAA’s decision is directly related to its potential liability in a pending lawsuit. The suit claims that the NCAA illegally profited from the use of the likenesses of current college athletes in EA-published games.

EarthBound Released on eShop, Nintendo Zone Enhancements

The Super NES classic EarthBound is now available as a Virtual Console game in the Nintendo eShop for Wii U for $9.99. Nintendo announced its availability during today’s Nintendo Direct Mini video. Nintendo also revealed that Nintendo Zone locations will be getting StreetPass enhancements to let players connect with one another.

In a few weeks, Nintendo 3DS owners will be able to visit any Nintendo Zone location to have virtual StreetPass encounters with other Nintendo 3DS owners in a relay format. Whenever a Nintendo 3DS owner goes to a Nintendo Zone location and has the StreetPass feature enabled, they will be able to StreetPass with the last person to visit that location. This enhancement gives everyone more opportunities to StreetPass with other players. Visitors will be able to get StreetPass data for all their StreetPass games at once. Nintendo Zone locations in Canada are available at McDonald’s, Future Shop and Best Buy stores. In addition to StreetPass, Nintendo 3DS owners can connect their systems to the Internet for online play, Nintendo eShop shopping or just to check for SpotPass data or system updates.
