The first wave of PlayStation 4 players is set to deploy to Auraxis on January 20th. Today, Sony Online Entertainment announced that the free-to-play MMOFPS, PlanetSide 2, will enter Closed Beta for the PS4 this month.
Starting with a few thousand initial invites, the amount of players with access to the Closed Beta will steadily increase through the Beta period. Players will be invited to the Beta in chronological order of when they signed up. Players can opt in by email for a chance to participate in the Closed Beta through the PlanetSide 2 website.
Nordic Games has signed a distribution deal with Double Fine Productions for the retail edition of Broken Age for PC. The boxed version will be released simultaneously with the digital version in Spring 2015.
Ubisoft today announced that Assassin’s Creed Unity – Dead Kings, the downloadable campaign that continues Arno’s story after the events of Assassin’s Creed Unity, will be available for free to all purchasers of Assassin’s Creed Unity on next-gen consoles and PC on January 13th.
After the events of Assassin’s Creed Unity, Arno leaves Paris for Saint Denis, a mysterious city that holds the crypts of deceased French kings. Sent on a mission to the extensive underground of the Basilica, Arno will face a faction of new foes, the Raiders, populating its catacombs. Equipped with a lantern and a new powerful weapon, the Guillotine gun, Arno will have to navigate the dangerous passageways to uncover the darkest secrets of the city.
In addition to a fully-fledged main single-player campaign, Assassin’s Creed Unity – Dead Kings also offers new open world activities and side missions, including Murder Mysteries, enigmas and cooperative missions. Both single-player and cooperative modes enable players to unlock new weapons, gear and outfits that carry over between Assassin’s Creed Unity and Assassin’s Creed Unity – Dead Kings.
Activision and Nickelodeon today announced SpongeBob HeroPants, a new video game based on Nickelodeon’s animated TV series. This action platformer arrives February 3rd on Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV.
Czech-based indie developer and publisher BadFly Interactive today announced the worldwide release of its zombie-infested PC FPS, Dead Effect, now available for download via Steam. Dead Effect has previously been released on iOS and Android.
Sony Computer Entertainment today announced that the PlayStation 4 has cumulatively sold through more than 18.5 million units worldwide as of January 4th, 2015, and that the holiday season retail sales exceeded 4.1 million units globally. PS4 continues to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history.
In addition, over 10.9 million users have been taking advantage of the features and benefits of the PlayStation Plus membership service, as of January 2nd, 2015.
Sony Computer Entertainment America today announced that a subscription for the streaming game service PlayStation Now will launch on January 13th across Canada and US. The subscription, available first on PlayStation 4 followed by other PlayStation Now enabled devices, will offer unlimited access to over 100 PlayStation 3 games. That includes titles from major publishers like SCE Worldwide Studios, Warner Brothers, Bandai Namco Games, Sega, and more. Gamers will be able to choose from a monthly subscription plan for $19.99 per month or a three-month plan for $44.99, breaking down to about $15 per month. A free seven-day trial that provides access to all games in the subscription service will also be offered at launch.
To celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PlayStation Now theme will be available for PS4 owners to download starting in early January. Those who download the theme before January 31st will be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year subscription to PlayStation Now.
Marvelous Europe today announced that the retro-styled JRPG Alphadia Genesis will be available to purchase on Steam starting January 12th. Alphadia Genesis will launch with an introductory price of $11.99 and will be the first Kemco RPG released on Steam.
Two former DICE leads, an art director and a designer from the Battlefield, Lost Planet and Shadows of the Damned games, have combined to form Fugitive Games. Their first title, Into the Stars, is an open-world space survival simulation for PC built in Unreal Engine 4. Into the Stars features an original score from Jack Wall, the composer behind the music of Mass Effect, Call of Duty and Lost Planet.
