March 2014 Video Game Sales Results

The NPD Group has released its report for the month of March. While software sales continued to be down 28% year over year in March, hardware sales were up 78%. Overall, total industry sales increased 3% to $1.03 billion. PlayStation 4 continues to be the best selling platform despite the Xbox One exclusive Titanfall topping the games chart. Xbox One sold 311,000 units in March, while Xbox 360 grew its install base with 111,000 units sold, more than any seventh generation console. Wii U hardware sales increased by 4.5% over the same month last year, with 70,000 units sold. And while down 31% year over year, the Nintendo 3DS was the best selling handheld in March, with 159,000 units sold.
