It was glowing reviews like this that lead me to pickup a copy BL2. I can see that game reviews are going the same way as everything else and one needs to surf the user groups to find out how the game REALLY is.

I did not play the 1st installment so I can't tell if this one is an improvement or not. However what I can say is that the reviews of it really missed the mark.

Expect to die. Alot.

This is mainly a cover based FPS shooter and junk collector with cheap shot tactics and mild RPGish elements. Farming and grinding is deeply embedded into how this game works.

There is only one difficulty setting: stupid. On each and every assignment you are sent out without enough firepower or ammo. Different guns and ammo can be found along the way, however 1) there's a %75 chance its worse than what you already have, 2) You have limited backpack/inventory space to carry useless items to sell later, 3) there are 4 types of guns and ammo types, 4) not all ammo types are readily available, 5) the NPC's and creatures you have to fight through respawn quickly behind you and 6) enemies respawn faster than ammo and loot. This is only the beginning of the mechanics nightmare.

This game likes to pack 'surprises' in each outing. If you think you have 'sniped' all targets in an area, think again. Once your in the 'thick' of the area, twice as many enemies will spawn around you on all sides. Think there's a 'boss fight' ahead? There might actually be more than one to a handful of them. Made it through all the above? Watch out - there are almost unkillable NPC's that jump out of ammo, equipment and storage lockers just when you least expect it.

Death. All the time. It costs you to. Each time you die you get 'charged' to respawn. While many times this cost is used to replenish your ammo, it won't restock rockets or 'naids, if you need those your SOL.

Here's where the grinding comes in. To get enough cash to cover death and ammo supplies, you'll have to continually replay areas (once everything has respawned). There are rare chances that some boss's might drop some decent hardware that might be useful for a at least a few levels, so players end up FARMING the missions/bosses for decent gear.

After suffering through the game once, I went onto try 'true vault hunter mode' and got a handful of missions into it and had to ask myself: why? I went onto play another title.

Funny thing is that the only thing this game has going for it are a few decent characters and 1/2 ok story.

I rate it 1 out of 4 stars. (after all it did not crash or appear to have any bugs)
