This new soccer game resembles Actua Soccer 2 and World Cup 98. The improvement is mainly in the detailed graphics, player's faces, weather conditions and movements.

The player control is somewhat difficult, especially orientation without the ball while defending. Even with the ball there isn't a variety of special moves as seen in FIFA 98. The menus (that is after the main menu) are hard to understand, you never know what the icon is going to do and it isn't written anywhere. Fox tried to imitate World Cup's lovable menus but failed miserably.

The team management is rather poor although there are all the regular options you'd expect to see, however most of which aren't very useful. For example, when trying to change team formation, you can only use the few defined formations and even then it hardly effects the game. Also, you can't control the substitutions.

The graphics are actually quite good. There aren't any big changes from other soccer games, most of the changes are small but add to the fun of playing the game. Tackles leave a nice trail on the grass and when playing in snow the players leave footprints. You can also play in rain or fog, all these makes the game more believable. The replays are very professional and turn every goal into a new experience. There is even a line in some replays which indicates ball course. The game supports 3dfx and MMX technology. The animation is very smooth and the resolution can be changed.

The stats are very nice and has all the basic information plus number of passes and tackles. The sound is okay, with no major improvements from other soccer games. There are many mistakes in player's name, especially on unknown teams.

Multiplayer game is fun and comfortable, it supports IPX/SPX, TCP/IP, modem and direct cable. Overall the game is very similar to Actua Soccer 2, which isn't a bad thing I suppose. Its well worth a look if you enjoy soccer games.
