When King Kong came out to the theaters, Gameloft grabbed the rights to make a mobile game based on the film. Shockingly, after a year’s time, the designers have only implemented one table into the pinball version of the King Kong game which integrates all the scenes from Skull Island all the way to the Empire State Building. I’m not sure why the New York and Skull Island scenes couldn’t be separated from each other. Heck, even Skull Island could have been divided into humans versus the island and Kong versus the island. King Kong Pinball does feature your regular pinball LED games.

These challenges are unlocked by accomplishing pinball goals. The most interesting mini-games include putting airplanes or centipedes on the playing area. Here, you’ll have to use your flipper much like the paddle in Taito’s Arkanoid and try to hit with the ball. Overall, there is a mix of traditional pinball goals and electronic LED style mini-games.

Performance of King Kong Pinball is fairly good. The scrolling is not too jerky and there are no animation problems like ghost trails behind your ball. I did have one instance where the ball felt very sticky on the flipper but whether that’s because of something that happened within the challenge or it was a momentary lapse on the part of the pinball physics is unknown to me.

With only one table, it’s difficult to recommend this to anyone except a King Kong fan who might want to spend a few bucks to entertain themselves while standing in line or waiting for a train. There is no save game function so any achievements or challenges you unlocked will have to be done again in another playing session. Again, this kind of limitation isn’t helping the appeal of the game.
