Product: PSP Cellboost Battery Manufacturer: Compact Power Systems Retail Price: $4.99 USD Date of Availability: Now Available A fairly interesting concept that may not catch on, the Cellboost will probably manage to carve out a niche market. First of all, everyone needs to know what this is. The Cellboost is a disposable battery pack for, among many other things, the PSP that carries about two hours of charge. It plugs directly in to your PSP charge outlet and has a switch that turns on the battery and begins charging. Once it runs out of juice you can just simply throw it away. This is an overall pretty keen idea, but with limited use. This is ideal for someone who's going to be on a long flight or doesn't have a car charger for long road trips, but otherwise could almost end up looking excessive and frivolous. Not that this device doesn't have any merit, but it may seem pointless to those who aren't traveling. Then again, these devices are meant for people who are doing some sort of travel, so if you aren't traveling then you really aren't the target market. The design of the Cellboost is decent and not too inconvenient, though it can add some bulk and if you have large hands like I do, it can take some getting used to. The design is basically banana shaped with a connector that you put into the charger port and a hook to clip into the carrying cord loop. It snaps in pretty easily and adds about an inch to the height of the PSP. Currently, prices vary quite a bit between different retailers, but you can find one as low as $4.99 USD, which isn't a bad deal. So if you're looking for something to extend your battery power for a trip and you don't want to spend a lot of money, this is an item for serious consideration. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense for home use. |
