GO Review: Martian Gothic
- Jimmy Clydesdale
Although it features an excellent sci-fi storyline, Martian Gothic falls short due to it's repetitive enemies and
uninspiring puzzles. Here's a little blurb from our review:
"One of the problems with Martian Gothic is the repetitive nature of the puzzles. There's very little innovation when
it comes to the brain teasers as Martian Gothic falls back numerous times on the old 'find the key that will open
the door' theory. There are only a few puzzles within the game that actually require special skills that each
character possesses. The only unique aspect in terms of solving the puzzles is the necessary interaction between
the three characters in order to traverse certain zones."

GO Review: Starlancer
- Jimmy Clydesdale
Starlancer combines the intense action of first-person space combat with the drama and intrigue of a classic
WWII air combat movie. Here's a little blurb from our review:
"The cut scenes are well acted and you feel that you have actually contributed to the Alliance's cause. The in
game graphics are crisp and clear but not close to revolutionary. The explosions are highly detailed and actually
seem like the ships are being blown to bits. The capital ships are
nicely designed and same with the fighters. One of the most graphically intense missions is the one where you are
required to fly INSIDE an asteroid that contains fuel pods."

GO Review: Innova Disc Golf
- Jimmy Clydesdale
Innova Disc Golf is the world's first interactive simulation of the sport that's sweeping the country. Budget
title or not, leave the discs in the park! Here's a little blurb from our review:
"Innova Disc Golf plays much like any other golf game, except instead of golf clubs and golf balls you throw discs
around a course with the objective of throwing it into a basket. There are four full 18-basket courses on which to
play. That's not the only similarity to the sport of golf however, each of the courses are par threes. That's to say
that on each hole, it should only take you three throws to land the disc into the basket. The goal of Innova Disc
Golf, much like regular golf, is to have as low a score as possible."

Review - The Longest Journey (c) Empire Interactive - Jove [ GO! ]
Gamers' Choice Award: Longest Journey
- Jove
The Longest Journey presents a long glance back at the good 'Ol days of adventuring. With an epic story and engrossing characters, The Longest Journey offers something that most games in the past couple years have missed: style. Here's an excerpt from our review:
"The Longest Journey is not just a simple fantasy adventure game in which you take control of a heroic protagonist and save the world. Rather, you are given control of a citizen, April Ryan, of New Port, a city of the "United States" set in the 23rd century, who, instead of fitting to a clichéd character mold, is a realistic individual with many flaws to whom most should be able to relate, and yet also an individual who is destined to give up her existence as she knows it.

Warzone Online Announced
- Jimmy Clydesdale
Paradox Entertainment
announced the development of the online real-time strategy game, Mutant Chronicles: Warzone Online. The
product will be based on the Warzone tabletop miniatures game and the Mutant Chronicles universe. Scheduled to appear on the PC and
next-generation consoles, Warzone Online is set in a future where man has abandoned Earth in favor of other planets. Human nature being
what it is, the fighting is fiercer than ever, with mega-corporations battling over the scarce natural resources located on the colonized areas of
the planets.
In Warzone Online, people will command a force built on a point-per-unit scheme from a large selection of troops. The goal will be to meet a
maximum point value before entering battle. With this method, the gamer?s competence in composing the force according to the situation will
affect the outcome more than the use of individual units, Paradox suggested in a press release. Choosing the right army will therefore be as
much a part of Warzone Online as fighting. For instance, fighting indoors will require competent close combat troops. Large-scale battles with
limited cover will call for snipers and units with solid ranged combat potential. If the battlefield presents a wide variety of combat situations,
then people will need to choose a more versatile force.
Warzone Online is being built on the Valpurgius 3D Engine, which is under development at Paradox Entertainment. A graphics rendering
engine designed for large outdoor environments with high detail, Valpurgius is build around a scalable architecture that balances visual caliber
and frame rate based on the client machine's performance. This means the game promises to run well on low-end machines while leveraging
the processing power of faster PCs.
The Warzone Online client will ship with a number of basic units from each force; advanced units will be available for purchase online. The
game will not require fees and will be run online for free. Depending on the force people want to build, new troops will be purchased in the
"Warzone Lobby." Online is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2001.
