Majesty is Gold - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Hasbro Interactive and Cyberlore have confirmed that their upcoming real-time strategy game, Majesty, has gone gold and is due to arrive on store shelves in March.

The fantasy-themed Majesty posits you as a crowned ruler, and from the walls of your castle, you are challenged to meet the needs of your growing empire and its varied inhabitants. Each decision has an impact on the well being of your property, and those upon whom you depend to carry out your wishes. The quests will require you to develop unique strategies, build your tax base, collect moneys owed to the crown, explore your surroundings, and vanquish your enemies.

James Bond Details - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Electronic Arts has released select details on its top-secret James Bond spy game The World is Not Enough. The company has also launched a website to support the Quake III-engined game.

Building on the plot of the movie gamers play as 007 from a first-person perspective. The videogame will feature recognizable allies and enemies from the movies, as well as some characters created especially for the game, which will have to be recruited or defeated in order to achieve mission goals.

EA is also promising massive arenas and levels, based on in-movie environments, and plans extensive 3D cinematics and movie footage to keep the movie feel of the James Bond world.

Unreal Tournament Bonus Pack Soon - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • The anticipated Unreal Tournament Bonus Pack, which features new skins and maps, looks like it will posted on the web this weekend.

The free UT download will feature three new skin models and eleven new multiplayer maps. A feature known as Relics will also be included. Thief 2 Development Update - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Looking Glass Studios has announced that Thief II: The Metal Age has reached feature freeze status and should master in time for their planned March 22nd release date.

Editor's Note: Am I the only person who thinks Thief II is going to end up looking and playing exactly like the original with little to no improvement?

Ultima Online is Booming - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Electronic Arts and Origin have announced that Ultima Online currently enjoys one hundred fifty thousand paying customers. Mathematically, that's one and a half million dollars per month in residual income.

Editor's Note: For those of you wondering why the company decided to discontinue their updates on Ultima IX to focus their resources into Ultima Online 2, does that answer your question? A mighty fine slap in the face if that is the case.

Review - Heart Breakers (c) Family Productions Ltd. - Freddy Krueger [ GO! ]

GO Review: Heart Breakers - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Is that guy trying to grab her ass? Uh oh, I think he's about to learn what Heart Breakers is all about. Heart Breakers is a fighting game from the Asian developers Family Productions Ltd. Here's a little blurb from our review:

"As I played this game, and now as I write this review, a few questions have crossed my mind. Why did they call this game Heart Breakers? Are these fighters former lovers looking to exact revenge on their ex's because they left the toilet seat up? Are those boobies real? Are melons on sale this week? Heart Breakers is an action-packed fighting title that unfortunately borrows more than it creates. It doesn't deliver when it should and the bottom line is this: I enjoyed Heart Breakers the first time around, when it was called Street Fighter."

Be sure to check out the rest of our Heart Breakers review including over a dozen visuals. Enjoy!

Pocket PC in June - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Microsoft announced it would launch its new POCKET PC software for handheld computers--as a challenger to 3Com's popular Palm devices--before June 30, Reuters is reporting. First unveiled in January, the software, which will run on devices made at Casio, Compaq, and Symbol Technologies--will be a critical push for Microsoft's Windows CE operating system.

Microsoft has been a slow-mover in the mobile device business, having focused on boosting personal computer use. Palm's operating system dominates the U.S. palmtop arena, while in Europe--where mobile handsets are leading a move toward mobile Internet access--the Symbian alliance of top cellular phone manufacturers has made the most ground.

Besides software to make screens easier to read, POCKET PC will include technology that lets users listen to audio downloaded from the web. It will also feature an adapted Internet Explorer browser, including a wide range of ways to store downloaded web pages and read them offline. The product will be able to run music using both Microsoft's Windows Media and MP3, which downloads music from the Internet. Microsoft is also preparing ways to incorporate Bluetooth short-wave radio technology for wireless Internet connections via a cellular phone.

  • Westwood has announced that Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun Firestorm has gone gold. Packed with new units, features and maps, Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun Firestorm, the expansion pack to the two-million-selling real-time strategy game, has been completed and is set to hit shelves in North America March 9th.

Firestorm continues the epic story of Tiberian Sun with 18 new single-player missions and more than 30 minutes of live-action filmed sequences. The story picks up with the notorious NOD leader Kane apparently dead and a new, even more deadly enemy emerging.

Firestorm energizes Tiberian Sun multiplay with 15 new multiplayer maps, new options for the Battle Map creator, and new units like the Juggernaut, the Mobile War Factory, the Mobile Stealth Generator, and the Cyborg Reaper.

There's also a new way to play over Westwood Online called World Domination. This mode allows gamers from around the world battle for the control of the world. Gamers will struggle for their chosen side, GDI or Nod, as they compete against thousands of other commanders. Eventually, either Nod or GDI will control more than 30 territories and claim the globe as their own.

The Firestorm expansion pack requires a copy of Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun to run. Tiberian Sun's minimum system requirements are a Pentium 166 MHz with 32 MB of RAM, a quad-speed CD drive, a 16-bit sound card, and a Direct X(tm) compatible video card.

    Beasts Announced - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Creature Labs has announced Beasts, a new real-time strategy game based on the mysterious wilderness monster called the Abominable Snowman, or Yeti, which is thought to reside in the Himalayan regions of India, Nepal, and Tibet. Accounts of another giant called Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, have persisted among some American Indians whose tribes inhabited the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Beasts will be the first game based on Creature Labs' artificial life technology.

Beasts boasts impressive 3D environments inhabited with Yeti, individual creatures that act for themselves under the guidance of the company's AI technology. The game's objective is to control the actions of a small group of Yeti who must overcome a serious crisis that threatens their existence. A large mining company has started up operations near them, and, as a result, is poisoning their environment. Players must drive the mining company out through any means necessary. Beasts will be the company's first 3D title, and is scheduled for release in the Spring of 2001.

According to SouthPeak, the title of the game was purchased by Sega of Japan, which left THQ and SouthPeak with a game that couldn't use it's name anymore. Since changing the name would mean changing the code, graphics and repriting boxes and manuals, a task that would be costly to say the least, it looks like Rent-A-Hero will not make it to US stores at all now.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Announced - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Activision today announced Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, to the PlayStation game console, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, Sega Dreamcast and PC. The highly anticipated sequel is expected to be released this fall. As with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, the sequel's PlayStation game console version is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment.

With the most comprehensive roster of pro skaters, an intuitive control scheme, and enhanced skating physics, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 will deliver the most authentic and cutting-edge skateboarding experience and expands on the groundbreaking features of the original game. The sequel's increased number of tricks and combinations - including new grabs, grinds, inverts and lip and nollie tricks - will challenge players to master new skills as they work their way up the skateboarding ranks.

Adding depth and replayability to the game is the most advanced Skatepark editor, allowing players to build their own dream parks from scratch. Players can see exactly how their park will look in the game as they plot out a course using a variety of parts - ramps, rails, obstacles and quarterpipes - in the real-time 3D editor. Once a level is laid out it can be saved to a Memory Card and shared with friends. Additionally, a total character customization feature allows gamers to modify the pro skaters' clothing, physical appearance and trick sets, or build an entirely new character from scratch.

Players can ollie and grind in a variety of new international real world settings, including skate parks and locations in New York, Marseille, and Rio de Janeiro. Each environment is littered with secret areas, short cuts, ramps and interactive objects allowing players to trick off of just about everything in sight.

Offering several modes of play, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2's two-player split-screen trick attack mode give skaters the ability to interact with other players, allowing them to compete on ramps and in skateparks for style points, race between various obstacles on the tracks or play in graffiti mode in which players "tag" different obstacles in the environment by performing tricks off of them. The game also features a variety of multiplayer modes including an all new multiplayer competition mode in which players can compete with and against up to seven opponents in a judged skate competition, new street, vert and best trick modes and an enhanced version of H-O-R-S-E. Additionally, the game also features new mini-games that players can unlock as they advance through the improved career mode as well as a replay mode where players can view the highlights of each run.

Dark Age Camelot Announced - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Mythic Entertainment today announced that it has begun developing a next-generation online role-playing game, Dark Age of Camelot. With a 15 month development schedule, the game is slated to go live at the end of Quarter 1 2001.

Set in the Realms of Albion, Hibernia and Midgard, Camelot begins just after the death of King Arthur. Following the death of the legendary monarch, the three lands go to war, each realm vying to replace Arthur's Camelot as the leading power of this new, and chaotic, age. In this world, people must battle against both computer-controlled monsters as well as ward off assaults from human participants belonging to the other realms. Camelot incorporates Numerical Design's NetImmerse 3D engine, seen in Prince of Persia 3D and Mythic's own Spellbinder: The Nexus Conflict.

At the heart of Camelot are three realms--Britons, Norse, and Celts--and the people who inhabit them. Each realm is a world unto itself, where a character can spend his or her entire life hunting monsters, exploring ruins, and solving quests. Players within a realm are prohibited from assaulting each other, but can fight members of other realms, staging raids into an enemy realm to steal special artifacts, for example. Players who belong to the same realm will form strong bonds, as they must collaborate in order to stave off the opposing forces. Those who are new to the world will have special, protected training areas.

    StormRavers Announced - Jimmy Clydesdale
  • Teneon Technologies is putting its new engine to the test in StormRavers, an online 3D action offering that boasts real-time lighting effects, and advanced prediction technology. The engine sports effects of fog, transparency, mip-mapping, and bilinear interpolation with multiple concurrent 3D views.

As a StormRaver, you must collect eballs with a hovercraft, and bring them home to your drop zone. To be assigned a drop zone, you must be the first stormraver to drive through it. Once assigned, the drop zone will fire upon all other combatants who come within close range. Others can try to steal your onboard eballs in combat. A stormraver can use upgradable primary and secondary weapons to fire upon others and defend themselves. Each level finishes when one of the stormravers succeeds in dropping a certain amount of eballs in his drop zone, or after a specified time limit.

StormRaver will require a Pentium 200MHz or higher processor with 32MB of RAM and a Voodoo 1 or better 3D graphics accelerator. Teneon is beta testing a demo for release soon.
