PlayStation 3 Slim Coming This Holiday

Sony Computer Entertainment today announced the new PlayStation 3, featuring a new design and a downsized form factor, will become available this holiday season. The new PS3 will come in 2 models including extended built in Hard Disk Drive capacity of 500GB (available for $299 on October 30th) and 250GB (available for $249 on September 25th).

Completely redesigning the internal design architecture, the internal volume and weight of the new PS3 is reduced by more than half compared to the very first PS3 model with a 60GB HDD, and by 20% and 25% respectively compared to the current PS3. In addition, a variety of accessories will be introduced by Sony including a vertical stand that offers more flexibility in how the new PS3 can be displayed.

Dark Souls: Atorias of the Abyss Coming to Consoles

Namco Bandai today announced that the Artorias of the Abyss content that debuted in Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is coming to consoles and will be available for purchase via digital download on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live on October 23rd. In addition to new maps and environments, new boss characters, enemies, NPCs, and an arsenal of new weapons and armor, the Artorias of the Abyss DLC content will also provide players with an enhanced online PVP (player vs. player) mode.

PlayStation Plus Coming to PS Vita

Sony Computer Entertainment today announced that PlayStation Plus, the subscription service package on PlayStation Network, will become available for PlayStation Vita in November.

By purchasing a PlayStation Plus membership on PlayStation Store, PS Vita owners will be able to play free games, receive discounts for select titles, and enjoy other benefits unique to the service. A variety of PlayStation Plus subscription options will be available, including a 90 day plan ($17.99) and a 365 day plan ($49.99).

PlayStation 3 owners with existing PlayStation Plus memberships, as well as first time members through PS Vita, will be able to enjoy PlayStation Plus features and services on both PS3 and PS Vita at no extra cost.

Midway Arcade Origins Announced

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced Midway Arcade Origins, a compilation of more than 30 classic Midway titles from the golden age of arcades. Available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this holiday season for $29.99, the collection offers arcade favorites, including Gauntlet, Rampage, Joust, Spy Hunter, Defender, Marble Madness and more. Players will also be able to enjoy many games with up to three of their friends in local, co-op multiplayer and post their high scores online.

Focus Home Interactive today announced that RAW – Realms of Ancient War is now available for download on Xbox Live Arcade. The Hack’n'Slash game will also be available on PlayStation Network on September 25th and for PC on October 4th.

Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Ships

Capcom today announced that the limited edition Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set is now available in stores nationwide. The set can be purchased on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $149.99. Created as a celebration and tribute to its fans, the limited edition set is individually numbered and packed with Street Fighter games, video, art, music, and exclusive collectibles. The items are housed in a specially created chest complete with a certificate of authenticity.

DCUO Hand of Fate DLC Released

Sony Online Entertainment today announced that Hand of Fate, the fifth downloadable content pack for DC Universe Online, is now available for download on PC and PlayStation 3.

At the bidding of Doctor Fate or the evil sorcerer Felix Faust, players will undertake Operations — six new episodes designed for group play featuring three Heroic and three Villainous — that will take high level players back out to the open-world cities of Gotham City and Metropolis. Additionally, new side missions will be featured. Hand of Fate also provides players with new Utility Belt Attachments and debuts magic-powered Legends PvP characters.

Legendary members can now access DCUO’s Hand of Fate DLC pack for free. Hand of Fate is also available for $9.99 to Free and Premium players via the PlayStation Network, the in-game Marketplace, or for PC players via DCUniverseOnline.com.

Kirby’s Dream Collection: SE Ships

Nintendo today announced that Kirby’s Dream Collection: Special Edition is now available in stores nationwide for the Wii. This collection includes six classic Kirby games on one disc, additional Challenge Stages based on 2011′s Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, an interactive timeline, a CD containing favourite music from the series and a commemorative book that gives new and existing fans an inside look at the history of Kirby.

Kirby’s Dream Collection: Special Edition includes:

  • Kirby’s Dream Land (originally released for Game Boy in 1992)
  • Kirby’s Adventure (originally released for NES in 1993)
  • Kirby’s Dream Land 2 (originally released for Game Boy in 1995)
  • Kirby’s Super Star (originally released for Super NES in 1996)
  • Kirby’s Dream Land 3 (originally released for Super NES in 1997)
  • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 2000)

New Resident Evil 6 Demo Live

Beginning today, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will be able to download the new Resident Evil 6 demo from Xbox Live and PlayStation Store. Resident Evil 6 will release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 2nd. A PC version will follow soon.

2K Games and Gearbox Software today announced Borderlands 2 is now available in stores nationwide for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Players will also experience an all-new story that takes place five years after the events of the original game. Bethesda Softworks has released the fourth and final video in their developer documentary series for Dishonored. Goldfinger Revealed for 007 Legends

Activision today revealed Goldfinger as the fifth 007 movie-inspired mission that joins Die Another Day, Moonraker, Licence to Kill and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, in 007 Legends, scheduled for release on October 16th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. In 007 Legends, the Goldfinger mission finds the best undercover agent early in his career investigating Auric Goldfinger – a gold magnate thought to be behind a recent spike in gold prices – only to discover a larger plot to irradiate the entire Fort Knox gold reserve.
