Injustice 2 Battleground Series Announced

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced the Injustice 2 Battleground Series Presented by EB Games, in partnership with Cineplex, and World Gaming, a Canadian esports program for the recently released Injustice 2 videogame from NetherRealm Studios. The Injustice 2 Battleground Series is a stand-alone tournament that will be available to players in Canada.

The 2017 summer series has WBIE teaming up with Cineplex, EB Games and World Gaming to further build the fighting game community in Canada. The program offers amateur and pro players from across the country a chance to compete in different regional programs for a portion of a $10,000 prize pool. Additionally, there will be audience prizing awarded at each regional in-theatre competition.

The Injustice 2 Battleground Series will follow an online qualifier-to-in-theatre format, leading to a series of regional finals in seven Canadian locations on July 15th. All gameplay will take place on PlayStation 4 in a 1v1 tournament format. The competition is open to Canadian residents only and player registration is free. Online registration is currently open at www.worldgaming.com, with regional online qualifiers commencing June 24th to July 9th.

The online events will accommodate up to 64 players per tournament and feature a points-based circuit format — there will be three single-elimination online tournaments per region, where players accumulate points based on their placement. The top 16 players from each region qualify for Stage Two.

The regional finals will take place on July 15th at select Cineplex theatres in Montreal, QC, Ottawa and Toronto, ON, Winnipeg, MB, Chinook and Edmonton, AB, and Langley, BC. Each tournament will feature 16 players per theatre in a double-elimination format, competing for a prize pool of $1,000 ($600 for 1st, $300 for 2nd and $100 for 3rd).
