Shadow of Mordor Receives Top Honor at the 15th Annual GDC Awards

Tonight, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was honored with the coveted Game of the Year award during the 15th annual Game Developers Choice Awards. The mobile puzzle game Monument Valley left with the most awards of the night, including the Best Visual Art, Innovation and Best Handheld/Mobile Game awards. Other notable winners honored during the ceremony include Alien Isolation, whose score won Best Audio, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, which took home the Best Design award, and Destiny, which was recognized with the Best Technology award.

The awards ceremony also celebrated developers who have contributed to the art, science and craft of video games. David Braben received the Pioneer Award for co-creating the seminal ‘open world’ 3D space trading game Elite in the early 1980s. The Ambassador Award was presented to game designer and academic Brenda Romero for her work in the video game industry for over the past 30 years. Finally, the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the Final Fantasy series and founder and president of Mistwalker.
